Huntingtons diseases is a degenerative genetic condition effecting 1 in every 20,000. It effects a patient's memory and cognition, bodily movements and behaviours. You will gain an insight into the symptoms of the disease and how this impacts their oral cavity and ability to maintain oral health. Through this session the speaker hopes to raise awareness of the audience on special considerations for treating individuals living with the disease and how to tailor preventative advice to their needs.  

  • Have an awareness of the symptoms of Huntington's disease and understand their impact on oral health
  • Understand the issues surrounding consent and safeguarding of patients living with Huntington's disease
  • Be aware of reasonable adjustments that can be made to help access to dental care
  • Understand how to tailor preventative advice for patients living with Huntington's disease

Aims

To raise awareness of the disease in the dental field. Highlight the issues surrounding Huntington's disease, maintaining oral health and accessing dental treatment. Highlighting issues surrounding consent and safeguarding of this patient group. To give suggestions on ways to tailor preventative advice for those living with the disease.
