Professor Chapple will share recommendations of the EFP-WONCA workshop on the potential role of family doctors in early detection/screening/prevention of periodontitis and the role of oral healthcare professionals in early detection/screening/prevention of CVD, diabetes and respiratory diseases.

Share recommendations of the EFP-WONCA workshop on the role of doctors in early detection/prevention of periodontitis and the role of oral healthcare professionals in the early detection/prevention of CVD, diabetes and respiratory diseases - Current evidence-base for periodontitis as a risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCD) - Summarise biological links between periodontitis and NCDs

Learning Objectives

Explain to patients the impact of periodontitis on general health based on recommendations of the EFP-WONCA report - Insights into how early case detection of diabetes, CVD or respiratory diseases may be implemented in dentistry and how doctors need to develop care pathways for patients - Appreciate tools developed to enable closer working between oral healthcare professionals and doctors.
