
Fiona Ellwood

Society of British Dental Nurses
Registered Dental Nurse with a strong educational background and interest in ethical practice, patient safety science and working safely. Fiona was the former co- modular lead for Infection Prevention and Control for the Foundation degree for dental nurses, as well as the co-modular lead for public health. She has spoken locally, nationally, and internationally on a number of dental related topics and in addition, leadership and mentorship. Fiona was the first DCP to receive an Honorary Fellowship from FGDP and one of the first to be awarded the Fellowship from the Dental Trainers Faculty RCS Edinburgh.
Fiona has studied successfully to master’s level and is currently a Doctorate student. She is currently also studying Patient Safety Science. She holds two posts with the General Dental Council and is an External Examiner in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland and is employed as a subject expert in Wales. In 2021 Fiona was instrumental in bringing the International Federation of Dental Assistants and Dental Nurses to fruition and driving the Mental Health Wellness in Dentistry agenda forward with colleagues across all 4 nations.
Fiona is the current President, and one of the founders of the Society of British Dental Nurses and is involved in the Dental Professional Alliance group. In 2019 Fiona was awarded a Queen’s honour for her contribution to dentistry.
