After obtaining the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University Of Wales College of Medicine 1996, Matthew undertook Vocational Training before gaining further experience of NHS General Dental Practice in South Wales. He returned to hospital dentistry including three years in Senior House Officer posts before embarking on a PhD in the field of periodontal cell biology. This provided the progression to a five year specialist clinical training programme in Restorative Dentistry which was completed in 2008. Matthew is registered with the General Dental Council as a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, from 2013 he was Director of Dental Hygiene & Therapy at Cardiff Dental School and then Lead for the Masters in Clinical Dentistry Prosthodontic programmes. From 2023 he became the Lead for Restorative Cleft Lip and Palate services in South Wales via Swansea Bay University Health Board.
Matthew is an examiner and lead for the clinical component of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination for Restorative Dentistry.
