Throughout my career I have dedicated my time to quality improvement within the profession, I was involved at the inception of clinical effectiveness, I helped form study groups in the early 1990’s and currently through FGDP(UK) and subsequently CGDent I am attempting to form a National anonymous register of significant events within Dentistry in order to reduce risk within the system and allow a better understanding of incident reporting in order to tailor education accordingly. More recently I have been involved with work on Human factors in Dentistry and improving patient safety through quality improvement and sharing of information. My work within the Health Board involved oversight of a budget in excess of £197 million over 3 District hospitals with a population of over 200,000 across all primary care, community care and secondary care services with input into tertiary care services and cross working with Social services and Local Authority, I was also involved in the tendering of Primary care dental contracts including scoring of the clinical and service domains.
