MP, Shadow Minister, Primary Care and Public Health
Born and raised in Birmingham, Ms Gill gained a degree in sociology with social work from the University of East London. After graduation she combined work as a social worker, and later as children's services manager, with her role as a local councillor. In 2017 she was elected to represent Birmingham Edgbaston, becoming the first female British Sikh MP. A year later, she was promoted to the front bench, serving as Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for International Development, before being appointed as Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Public Health in September 2023. She is the Vice-President of the Local Government Association.
