Recognise a medical emergency early and call for help immediately, including calling 999 as soon as a patient is unresponsive and identifying abnormal breathing.
Carry out high-quality basic life support, including effective chest compressions and safe use of an AED, knowing that no formal training is required to use the AED.
Respond appropriately to common medical emergencies in the dental setting, such as anaphylaxis, hypoglycaemia, choking, and chest pain, using early first aid measures.
Work effectively as part of the dental team during an emergency, understanding individual roles, clear communication, and the importance of debriefing and support after an incident.
Aims
The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the key changes in the 2025 Resuscitation Council guidelines and to explain their practical implications for clinical practice, with a particular focus on early recognition, basic life support, AED use, team response, and post-event care.
