Adopting the dental therapist model into general dental practice

Learning Content

Andy will share his experience of adopting a therapist-led model within his Cornwall-based practice. Following the departure of his long-standing hygienist, he employed an Indian-trained dentist registered as a dental therapist. This shift has enabled him to focus on more complex and challenging treatments, while also expanding his patient base by approximately 30%.

Aims

To present a real-world example of transitioning to a therapist-led model in primary care dentistry - To highlight the potential for practice growth and increased patient access - To explore innovative workforce solutions, including the integration of overseas-trained clinicians.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the principles and structure of a therapist-led model in general dental practice - Identify the clinical and operational benefits of delegating routine care within the dental team - Apply insights from a real-world case study to their own practice setting.
Speakers
Andrew Ridout, Principal - Oak House Dental Practice
