Learning Content

This practical tips-focussed session hosted by the BDA Community Dental Services Group discusses will lead clinicians through the current guidance for bisphosphonates, steroids and anticoagulants, providing some pointers on what is appropriate in primary care and when to refer.

Aims

To equip dental practitioners with the knowledge and confidence to manage patients taking anticoagulants - To discuss some aspects of current guidance for management of patients on bisphosphonates, with particular reference to cancer patients - To explain why patients may be taking steroids and implications for their dental management.

Learning Outcomes

  • Be able to appropriately manage anticoagulant patients and to better understand bleeding risk - Understand the application of guidelines for patients on bisphosphonates and why local referral pathways, and multidisciplinary working, are important - How to safely manage patients taking steroids and when to refer on.
