Diagnosis and management of the typical periodontal patient: a case discussion

Learning Content

Typical cases of stage III/IV periodontitis will be presented to help you diagnose, classify, identify potential local or systemic risk factors, and provide an initial periodontal prognosis. Step-by-step management for periodontal disease, based on recently introduced guidelines, will be discussed with clinical examples. Limitations of restorations for patients with dental implants will also be discussed focusing on the importance of collaboration between dentists, hygienists/therapists and periodontists for long-term maintenance of periodontal health.

Aims

The lecture will present and discuss a clinical “flowchart” for the management of a typical periodontal patient from diagnosis, prognostication and treatment planning to step-by step treatment and maintenance care focusing on the role of dental practitioner and their collaboration with a periodontist.
