Learning Content
Peri implant diseases are increasingly common and challenging to manage. This session reviews guidelines and their limitations, including diagnosis, bone loss, and multifactorial causes. It focuses on practical decision making for prevention, maintenance, and when to monitor, treat, refer, or explant.
Aims
To provide a practical, evidence-based approach to peri-implant disease, integrating current guidelines with real-world challenges, and to equip clinicians with the skills to diagnose, monitor and manage implants, including making informed decisions on prevention, referral and implant prognosis.
Learning Outcomes
- Diagnose peri-implant diseases and recognise limitations of current criteria - Differentiate causes of peri-implant bone loss and identify key risk factors - Recognise clinical red flags and know when to monitor, treat or refer - Apply effective maintenance and prevention strategies in practice.
