Regenerative dentistry for elite athletes: managing early enamel lesions Beyond fluoride and fillings

This presentation explores how biomimetic peptide technology, developed by vVARDIS, is redefining the management of early, non-cavitated enamel lesions in elite and high-performance athletes. These athletes present a unique oral health profile characterised by high carbohydrate intake, frequent exposure to acidic sports nutrition, dehydration, reduced salivary flow, and intense performance schedules that often limit tolerance for invasive dental treatment. As a result, clinicians frequently encounter early enamel demineralisation where traditional decision-making is restricted to either passive monitoring or irreversible restorative intervention. The session introduces a real-world clinical workflow for sports dentistry, including: · modern screening and detection protocols · athlete-specific risk driver assessment · clinical decision points for early caries management, and · an “early interception” model using CURODONT™ Repair. Attendees will learn how biomimetic peptides can regenerate hydroxyapatite within early lesions, enabling clinicians to actively repair enamel tissue, delay or avoid restorative procedures, and preserve long-term tooth structure. Through applied case scenarios and club-based protocols, the presentation demonstrates how this regenerative approach bridges the long-standing “monitor vs restore” gap, aligning restorative modern dentistry with the principles of sports medicine, performance optimisation, and longevity.
