This session explores dental care professionals’ mental health and wellbeing. It examines occupational risks, workforce challenges and the need for cultural change in dentistry to reduce stigma, encourage open dialogue and create healthier, more supportive workplaces.

Aims

To highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing within the dental workforce by exploring the pressures experienced by dental care professionals. Drawing on current research, this session aims to encourage open conversation, reduce stigma and inspire cultural change to support a healthier, more sustainable future for dentistry.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognise key factors influencing dental care professionals’ mental health and wellbeing, including workplace stressors linked to burnout - Understand how dental professionals’ mental health affects patient care, communication and the wider dental team - Identify the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to support cultural change in dental workplaces.
