Learn practical screening tools, a structured scoring approach, management pathways, referral guidance, and how to integrate airway-focused care into daily practice.

Aims

To explore the clinical implications of mouth breathing in children and provide GDPs with structured approaches to screening, assessment, referral, and management within a multidisciplinary framework.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognise key dental signs of sleep disordered breathing in children during exams - Differentiate normal vs dysfunctional breathing and understand impacts on development and health - Apply simple screening methods to identify at-risk patients early, and determine management pathways, including referrals and use of habit-correcting appliances.
