This session aims to provide attendees with an overview of key principles surrounding consent for orthodontic treatment, with an overview on informed consent, ethical and legal principles underpinning orthodontic care, and key risks associated with orthodontic treatment, as well as methods and techniques to minimise, mitigate and manage them accordingly.
Aims
To provide an overview of consent in orthodontic care, including ethical and legal principles, key treatment risks, and practical approaches to communication, documentation, and risk management to support safe, patient-centred care.

- Understand ethical/legal principles of valid consent in orthodontics - Recognise key orthodontic risks and how to explain them to patients - Apply practical approaches to consent and documentation - Consider ways to minimise and manage orthodontic risks in practice.
