Transitioning to a digital workflow in restorative dentistry

Learning Content

The dental profession is in a period of transitioning from providing treatment in analogue to digital format. Depending on their undergraduate teaching and experience, many dentists have had limited exposure to digital dentistry yet on graduation may work in a practice which is focused mainly on working in digital format. The presentation will help clarify both the materials and more common techniques involved in the digital workflow as well focusing on as those are yet to prove more predictable than those carried out in a more traditional analogue format.

Aims

Outline the techniques that require a certain depth of knowledge of the traditional analogue workflow before applying them to a digital format Run through certain digital techniques/cases that require a solid base of clinical experience developed in analogue format Give a greater understanding of the available material choices to help arrive at the best treatment option for the patient

Learning Outcomes

  • To clarify where digital dentistry currently stands and where it is heading-To give an insight into those techniques that require further clinical maturity before making the transition from an analogue to a digital workflow- Improving confidence in managing cases- Enhancing the ability to match the patients’ expectations and communicate these to your technicians so to achieve the desired outcome.
