Beyond the toothache: a practical guide to dental pain and its treatment

Learning Content

Dental pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek emergency care, yet its assessment and management require a nuanced understanding of pain mechanisms, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment modalities. This lecture provides an evidence-based, structured approach to dental pain history-taking, enabling clinicians to accurately identify the source of pain and provide effective management.

We will explore various pain relief strategies, including pharmacological management, in-practice treatments, and patient self-care strategies for at-home emergency relief. The role of topical analgesia, particularly the use of Orajel, will be discussed in comparison to other pain management methods, along with appropriate indications, contraindications, and patient education strategies.

By the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • 1. Understand the Mechanism of Orajel
  • 2. Recognize Clinical Indications and Applications
  • 3. Ensure Safe and Effective Use

Aims

To provide dental professionals with a comprehensive understanding of dental emergencies and pain management
To explore our role in managing dental pain and patient comfort in clinical and domiciliary settings
To discuss best practices for recommending and applying Orajel safely and effectively
To address common misconceptions, contradictions, and patient education strategies
