NEW clinical guide now available

NEW clinical guide now available
The British Endodontic Society (BES) is constantly looking to support the endodontic community with bespoke advice, industry updates, clinical research development, and more. One of the ways it achieves this is by consistently evolving its professional guidelines and its membership benefits, ensuring each one is a true reflection of the discipline today. Below is a summary of just some of the latest developments the BES has made available to the profession…

The new “Guide to Traumatic Dental Injuries of Permanent Teeth” from the BES is now available for members and non-members to access!

The resource is designed to support dentists in the initial assessment and management of dental trauma to the permanent dentition. It serves primarily as a signposting resource, directing clinicians to concise guidance, practical tools, and authoritative sources for further reading.

Past President and BES Dental Trauma Working Group founder and lead, Maria Lessani, discusses the impact of the new guide for colleagues:

“Dental trauma is at the core of acute dental problems and we know this because, so often, dentists seek advice from endodontists, paediatric dentists, and oral surgeons. This is an area where, I know at dental school, most of us have been taught by all of those disciplines. At the BES, we identified that we need to collaborate and bring together this information so that it’s easily accessible. That was the foundation of the Working Group looking into this. I’m really grateful for the colleagues that came onboard with me the year that I was President of the BES and started to work with me on this.

“What we have found is that people want to be able to access care, so we are creating an interactive map so that people can identify where to go to get some help. Also, at the moment a patient is present with a dentist, they want to be able to find out why this has happened and what can be done. In that scenario, it can be quite stressful for everybody in the surgery, so we hope that the website can also be a port of call for signposting and to be able to access information quickly. There are proformas that people can download to gather the correct information at that point, but there are also simple guides on, for example, splinting which they probably don’t to very often, but need to be able to do very quickly when it’s needed.

“We are really proud to be linking the website to Dental Trauma UK, and we hope that the work we’ve put together to make it simple and accessibly for everybody is useful.”

Exploring new clinical techniques

Through various publications and workshops, the BES is always supporting professional education that exposes clinicians to innovative treatment techniques. Among the latest evidence-based approaches being discussed right now are Vital Pulp Therapies (VPTs), which are designed to maintain the health of all or part of the pulp.

Dr Marian Vallina, Specialist in Endodontics, commented: “VPTs represent a shift toward biologically conservative, patient-centred endodontic care. When performed with appropriate case selection and sound technique, they can preserve pulp vitality, streamline treatment, and enhance long-term tooth survival, embodying the principles of minimally invasive dentistry.”

Practitioners seeking further guidance on vital pulp therapy and endodontic care can consult the British Endodontic Society (BES) Guide to Good Endodontic Practice. The BES website also provides educational resources and the society hosts a variety of events to support continued professional development.

NEW membership benefit – Kiroku access

The BES has officially launched a new partnership with Kiroku, the digital note-taking platform that uses AI to help clinicians write their dental notes 60% faster than before.

Members of the BES can now enjoy:

  • 10% off Kiroku Essential for 12 months

  • 30% off Kiroku Pro for 12 months

  • Kiroku templates designed by the BES team

Irene Reguilon, Marketing Manager at Kiroku, commented: “It’s been a pleasure partnering with the British Endodontic Society to create intuitive, practical templates that support clinicians in producing notes that are compliant and aligned with best practice. Our shared goal has been to make high-quality documentation feel natural rather than burdensome, and the team from BES has been invaluable in creating these templates. This collaboration is about strengthening and supporting the endodontic community, and we’re delighted to also offer BES members discounted access to Kiroku so they can benefit from a faster, more consistent note-taking experience.”
