Using your dental skills to change lives with Dentaid

Dentaid Stand: D90
Using your dental skills to change lives with Dentaid
Dental professionals interested in using their skills to help people in need across the UK and abroad are being encouraged to find out more about volunteering for Dentaid The Dental Charity at the British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show Birmingham.

The charity will be on stand D90 at the event at the NEC on May 15th and 16th, revealing more details about its packed programme for 2026.

Dentaid will be bringing one of their 11-strong fleet of mobile dental units to the UK’s biggest dental show, giving show-goers the chance to learn more about what it’s like to spend a day on clinic providing care for people most in need of help with their oral health.

Those visiting Dentaid’s stand can find out more about volunteering opportunities across the country and how they can contribute to efforts to treat thousands of people who may struggle to access care in a general dental practice.

There’s also the opportunity for would-be thrill-seekers to learn about Dentaid’s programme of fundraising events for 2026, including some major charity challenges.

This summer sees the return of the Straumann Bike Ride, bringing together riders for an unforgettable challenge of cycling 500 miles across Switzerland, France and Germany in the space of five days. The ride, which begins at Straumann Group’s global head office in Basel, taken in legendary landscapes such as the Vosges National Park, the Alsace Wine Region and the legendary Black Forest.

The event is the third time Dentaid has benefited from the event and money raised will help support its work across the UK, particularly in providing dental care for vulnerable women and families affected by violence and abuse. By strengthening links with charities that offer secure and supportive environments in which patients feel safe, volunteer teams can help to build trust and treat dental issues that often resulted from highly traumatic times in patients’ lives.

Would-be fundraisers can also sign up to take part in major marathon and half-marathon events across the UK and Europe as part of the Run for Charity programme, take on rewarding challenges such as skydives, abseils and Ultra Challenge events, or simply find out more about other ways in which they can support Dentaid and make a difference.

2026 is a big year for Dentaid as the charity marks 30 years of providing life-changing dental care across the UK and overseas. Initially set up in 1996 to provide care in developing countries, Dentaid’s work now spans much of the UK, with volunteer dentists and dental nurses delivering over 1,100 clinics across 35 counties last year.  Their work helped to support thousands of people facing homelessness, families experiencing poverty, fishing communities, Traveller, Roma and Gypsy communities, refugees and those seeking asylum, people overcoming addiction and other vulnerable members of our communities.

This year is expected to be Dentaid’s busiest yet with a whole host of clinics in new locations, including in the north-west of England where a dedicated hub was set up in 2025. Funded with the support of The Bupa Foundation, the hub includes a dedicated vehicle and clinical team, allowing the charity to reduce the financial and environmental impact of sending teams from its base in Hampshire.

In December 2025, Dentaid marked a decade of providing services to people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse by returning to Dewsbury – where its UK work began.  The event saw Dentaid partner with local charity Kirklees in Recovery to provide services to those affected by homelessness and poverty, ensuring that those with nowhere else to turn in the town could receive support with their oral health.

Dentaid’s oral health education programme BrightBites, supported by Denplan, reached the milestone of educating over 180,000 children about their teeth since its launch. The programme aims to teach half a million primary school and nursery-age children about the importance of healthy and happy smiles by July 2028. Dentaid

This all comes alongside Dentaid’s continued goal of supporting people overseas where access to dentistry is minimal and many people face long-term challenges with their oral health. In 2025, volunteer teams supported over 10,000 people in need of dental care in rural villages, schools, churches, prisons and orphanages during six visits to Uganda, Cambodia and Malawi. Six more visits are planned for 2026 and applications are now open for teams to join in visits to all three countries in 2027.
